That means that

  my $arg = shift;
  utf8​::decode($arg);

will not do the right thing if someone passes in an object with string overloading.

To demonstrate​:

$ perl5.14.0 -MDevel​::Peek -e 'use overload q=""==>sub{chr 256}; $_ = bless[]; utf8​::decode($_); Dump $_'
