From @jimav

This is a bug report for perl from jim.avera@gmail.com,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.41 running under perl 5.28.1.

Getopt::Long should not remove a lone double-dash ("--") when
the 'pass_through' Configure option is in effect.

Removing "--" when doing pass_through breaks the subsequent GetOptions
call because there will be nothing to tell GetOptions to ignore the
argument left in @ARGV. If the terminating "--" is left at the start
of @ARGV, then things will work as intended.

#!/usr/bin/perl
use strict; use warnings; use v5.022;
use Getopt::Long;
select STDERR; $|=1; select STDOUT; $|=1;

#@ARGV = ("-a", "-b", "--", "-notanarg"); # works
@ARGV = ("-a", "--", "-notanarg"); # breaks

say "Initial ARGV=(", (join ",",@ARGV), ")\n";

# Extract -a if present, passing through the rest
Getopt::Long::Configure(qw(gnu_getopt require_order pass_through));
GetOptions(
  "a" => sub{ say "Got $_[0]" },
) or die "fail1";

say "After pass_through parse, ARGV=(", (join ",",@ARGV), ")\n";

# Parse the remaining args
Getopt::Long::Configure qw(permute nopass_through);
GetOptions(
  "b" => sub{ say "Got $_[0]" },
) or die "fail2";

say "Done parsing args, ARGV=(", (join ",",@ARGV), ")\n";

Okay, I just synched blead with version 2.51 from CPAN. Can you confirm that it produces the desired results?

Thank you very much.
