Questions on list archives #14033

From gdg@zplane.comJust fyi: The FAQ for perl5-porters gives http://www.xray.mpe.mpg.de/mailing-lists/perl5-porters/ as the list archive. But that archive appears not to have been updated since Somewhat related question: There's another archive at http://grokbase.com/g/perl/perl5-porters which is up to date. But I've noticed that it nearly always takes a few hours I suspect there are other folks who are nonplussed about the length of time http://grokbase.com/t/perl/perl5-porters/148aymrzq8/test which seems to be someone complaining/curious/head-scratching about the same Anyway, just bringing it to your attention. Thanks, Glenn |

We don't have anything to do with that archive, as far as I know. When posts don't go to the list promptly it's because they ended up in manual moderation which usually takes 12-48 hours. Ask |

I would like to move this ticket toward resolution. Glenn: Where is the FAQ from which you are quoting? I ask because when I ack the Perl 5 core codebase for "Is there a web archive", I get nothing. And the core codebase is the most that we directly control. The information at lists.perl.org looks up-to-date to me: Thank you very much. -- |

I'd say the link is http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.perl5.porters/ , not http://lists.perl.org/list/perl5-porters.html , since the question is where is the archive, not where is the list. -- |

I just now subscribed from a new email address and got a reply which looks much like that one. [snip]
I sent an email to perl5-porters-faq@perl.org and got a response that contained "p5pfaq - The perl 5 porters FAQ" as you did. But when I search Perl 5 blead for the string "p5pfaq", I get nothing. So this is a document that either never was part of Perl 5 core or was removed. I suspect this is more of a problem with lists.perl.org than with perl5-porters. -- |

Following the instructions found here: ... I have just submitted a patch for the JSON data for the perl5-porters list. (I just went through this with a different mailing list, so it was no sweat.) This patch deletes the reference to sending an email to "perl5-porters-faq@perl.org". This won't disable that email address, but it will give us some time to figure out: (a) Do we want a "p5pfaq" at all? (By "p5pfaq" I mean the content of an email that would be sent upon request from the email address above.) (b) If so, what should be its content? In particular, in what way should it be different from 'pod/perlhack.pod' or something already in core? (c) What is the mechanism that generates that email response? Glenn, others: Comments welcome! Thank you very much. |

Yes, but I think we have no such document worth passing out at the moment.
I think we want a high level summary of what goes on on p5p, how to participate, and what to expect. I think it would also be good to again review the way that perlhack and other documents play out for new porters. This is something I'd be happy to help with at YAPC or at some small hackathon, but I can tell you that I don't see myself getting work done on this on my own.
ezmlm, probably. We'd have to coordinate with the list managers. Probably: make sure we have a document worth sharing, then figure out how. :) -- |
