This is a bug report for perl from james_avera@​yahoo.com,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.39 running under perl 5.14.2.

$? always evaluates to zero in an END{} block when it appears
by itself on the RHS of an assignment to local $? e.g.

perl -we 'END{ local $? = $?; print "Status is $?\n" } exit 3'
Status is 0

However the problem vanishes if the RHS is anything more complicated​:

perl -we 'END{ local $? = $?+0; print "Status is $?\n" } exit 3'
Status is 3

This sounds like a variation of #119683. All magic variables that proxy
some external value suffer from this when localizing. I don't think there's
an easy solution :-/
