[...] NAME quotemeta - quote regular expression magic characters DESCRIPTION Returns the value of EXPR with all non-alphanumeric characters backslashed. (That is, all characters not matching /[A-Za-z_0-9]/ will be preceded by a backslash in the returned string [...] The point is that characters not matching /[A-Za-z_0-9]/ aren't regular expression magic characters... (doble quote is not, equal sign is not, etc. etc.) Sorry if I posted this report in the wrong place, but I didn't find any email address for perl documentation related things...
