hi,
I'm running HP unix and I don't know unix very well. I followed the
install instructions but when I was configuring it halted in the middle of the
process and gave me the error that the package seems to be incomplete. I didn't
continue because I didn't want to risk damaging the already existing version of
perl. So in short I don't know what to do or if its even possible to update perl
on my HP-ux box. Help?

Matt

Delete the source directory (the one containing the Configure
program) and start again with the latest source (that is, version
5.6.0), available at <http://www.cpan.org/src/stable.tar.gz>. After
looking over README.hpux, follow the build instructions in INSTALL.
If you still have trouble, mail <mailto:perlbug@perl.org>, if
possible by using the perlbug program that is built as part of Perl's
build process. Your mail should include the last ten lines or so of
the output produced during building. If you can't use the perlbug
program, also paste the output of the myconfig shell script (also
created during the build process) into your mail, or at least include
information about the version of perl you're trying to build, the
name and version of the operating system you're using, and details of
the C compiler.

Good luck.

While you're on the line... I suspect that HP has and/or a user
group has a download site for precompiled versions of Perl for HP/UX,
but I have not been able to find it. Since you appear to be an
insider (and since a precompiled version would save you trouble)
could you have a shot at locating it, and let us know at
<mailto:perl5-porters@perl.org> if you should find it.

Ian was on the right track, but, yes, out of date. Thanks for the
