From The RT System itself

What's the status of alarm() and SIGALRM handlers on systems that
aren't compliant with POSIX standards? People keep asking for
timeout abilities who aren't fortunate enough to have them.
There's also the matter of perl-op-stream-syncronous signals, but
that's not the problem. Or does that standard time-out strategy
work now in strange places?
